Watch ABC Now Requires You To Verify Your Subscription To Watch Shows On Demand

January 6, 2014
As announced last week, ABC has just reconnected the cable cord for its TV Everywhere offerings. In line with this, the commercial broadcast TV network has updated its Watch ABC app so that only select cable and satellite TV subscribers can watch ABC live and on demand on iOS devices. While several episodes may be watched in the app without signing in, Watch ABC now requires authentication with a participating TV provider to enable viewing of the most recently aired episodes of ABC's shows. On-demand viewing of recent ABC episodes is initially available to subscribers of AT&T U-verse, Cablevision Optimum, Charter, Comcast XFINITY, Cox, Google Fiber, and Verizon FiOS. Just select your participating TV provider from the list and verify your username and password to start watching the latest episodes of "Scandal," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and more in Watch ABC. As noted by my colleague Bryan:
ABC’s new policy is obviously a step in the wrong direction, and one that comes as a huge surprise. The Walt Disney company was the first U.S. network to offer video streaming on iOS devices. Up until this point, the free Watch ABC app didn’t require cable/satellite authentication.
The new version of Watch ABC is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
