Apple's iOS 7.0.6 Breaks evasi0n7, But It Can Easily Be Fixed
Apple published a minor update for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – iOS 7.0.6 – yesterday, and unsurprisingly the evasi0n7 jailbreak tool isn't optimized for the tweaked mobile OS. The good news, however, is that evasi0n7 can be fixed to work with iOS 7.0.6, and a reliable version of the jailbreak software has already surfaced online.
Correcting evasi0n7 is a simple matter of using a Hex editing utility to bring the jailbreak software in line with the new mobile OS. We're certain the evad3rs (@evad3rs), who already updated evasi0n7 for iOS 7.0.5, will release an official fix for the software in the near future.
In the meantime, the folks at iDownloadBlog have uploaded a custom Hex-edited version of evasion7 1.0.5, adding compatibility for iOS 7.0.6. You can pick it up from their website free of charge, and it's optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
The publication explains:
You can rest-assured that this file is fine. It was downloaded directly from evasi0n.com and hand-edited by yours truly with Hex Fiend, a hex editing utility for OS X. This means that this tutorial, as of right now at least, is only for Mac users, but we will hopefully have a Windows file and tutorial in the near future. The same premise applies to whatever OS you use, however. All I did was update the supported build number in Evasi0n7 to support iOS 7.0.6.
As before, jailbreakers looking to use evasi0n7 with their iOS device must install a fresh IPSW onto their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes, since over-the-air (OTA) downloaded installs seem to confuse the jailbreak process.
You can pick up copies of Apple's iOS free of charge online, and restoring to a particular IPSW can be done by clicking “Restore” in iTunes while holding down the “alt” key on your Mac's keyboard.
Be sure to make a full backup of your iOS device before jailbreaking, and as always, proceed with caution!
