'Big Fish' Screenwriter John August Launches New Weekend Read App For iOS

John August, the popular screenwriter of several Tim Burton films (including "Big Fish" and "Frankenweenie"), is out with a brand new iOS app called Weekend Read.
Weekend Read is created by August in collaboration with the same team he worked with in the development of FDX Reader for iOS and Highland for Mac.
"If you’re acquainted with our other apps, you may be saying, 'Well, it sounds like they took the ‘reader’ part of FDX Reader and the PDF-melting parts of Highland and put them together in one app,'" August notes on his blog. "You’re right. That’s exactly what we did."
But Weekend Read turns out to be just that and then some.
Weekend Read is designed to be the one place you turn to for your reading, as it works with different file types, including PDF, Markdown, and text. But it's especially well-suited for reading screenplays, since it also supports Fountain and Final Draft.
One of Weekend Read's key features is its handling of PDFs and screenplays. The app optimizes such files so that the font and text size are effectively rendered adjustable.
Weekend Read also features built-in search, a new page jumper, a dark mode, character highlighting, and full-screen mode.
Weekend Read's library stores your files for offline reading. You add files to the library by importing from Dropbox, email, clipboard, and other apps. Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, Weekend Read is available now in the App Store for free.
The initial free download supports up to four files only. To enable Weekend Read to hold hundreds of files, you can upgrade to the app's premium edition via a $9.99 in-app purchase.
