Cydia Tweak: Add A Splash Of Color To Badge Notifications With ColorBadges

February 15, 2014

One upcoming jailbreak tweak makes it possible for users to easily add a splash of color to iOS badge notifications. Called ColorBadges, the package can auto-color badge notifications based on the design of the application’s icon. From what we understand, the impressive package has been submitted to the Cydia Store and should be available to download soon.

ColorBadges is a simple jailbreak tweak, for sure, but it also looks to be one that can greatly improve the appearance of the mobile OS. In a recent article iDownloadBlog explains that it got to go hands-on with the package, and notes that once installed, ColorBadges accurately changes the color of badge notifications to match the design of iOS app icons. “For example, if you have a badge on the Cydia app, the color of the badge will be brown, which corresponds to the color of the Cydia app,” the publication states.

However, that’s not all, because ColorBadges also adds an outline around the edges of badge notifications in order to make them stand out further. Given that badge notifications are going to range in color once the jailbreak tweak is enabled, this sounds like a sensible feature.

No additional options are available to configure once ColorBadges has been installed; instead, the jailbreak tweak should start working immediately, auto-detecting the color of app icons and subsequently changing the appearance of badge notifications. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to have iOS app folder badges auto-change, since these contain several apps with different colored app icons, however a package called Badge Customizer allows users to achieve this for free.

Once available, ColorBadges will set users back $0.99. How do you like the look of the upcoming jailbreak tweak?
