Cydia Tweak: How To Easily Add A Live Weather Widget To Your iOS Lock Screen
Those of you looking to further spruce up iOS 7 should consider downloading a brand new jailbreak tweak, iOS 7 LockScreen Weather, which adds a nice weather display to the iOS Lock screen. You can pick up the package in the Cydia Store for $1.49, and it’s optimized for both iOS 7 and ARM64-devices.
As you can see in the above image, the jailbreak tweak adds a nice iOS 7-style live weather interface to the iOS Lock screen. It’ll auto-update, sourcing data from the built-in Weather app, and displays the temperature alongside animations, highs and lows, a text summary of the present weather, and a short range forecast.
In our opinion, iOS 7 LockScreen Weather is one of those jailbreak tweaks that really does look like it came from Apple directly. It uses Cydget, the Lock screen widget package developed by Cydia creator Jay Freeman (@saurik), and fits in with the design ethos of iOS 7 perfectly. However, there are a couple of problems with the package.
First, though iOS 7 LockScreen Weather might look like it was designed by Apple, it’s not as easy to use as an Apple-made app. Specifically, the process of setting up local weather reports is a chore: in order to do this, you’ll need to access your iPhone’s filesystem (using a jailbreak tweak like iFile, or a desktop application) and edit a config.js file. Though this problem should be fixed in a future update, according to the package’s developer.
Furthermore, iOS 7 LockScreen Weather is compatible with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5, but it may struggle to run properly on older iOS devices. “Full support for these will be available shortly,” developer A Pint of Milk explains in the package’s release notes.
This means you may wish to hold off on purchasing iOS 7 LockScreen Weather for now. As mentioned, jailbreakers can pick up the package for $1.49 in the Cydia Store, and provided your iPhone filesystem is no stranger to you, you should have no problem setting the package up.
