Vimeo For iOS Updated With New Swipe Gestures And Better AirDrop Integration

February 9, 2014

The official iOS app of the popular video-sharing website Vimeo has just received another update.

Last December, Vimeo for iOS was updated with a feature that allowed users to tap and hold on a video thumbnail to like, watch later, share, or download the video for offline playback. Well, the latest update to the app tweaks that feature while introducing a new gesture for accessing video options.

Now, tapping and holding on a thumbnail automatically initiates video download. But downloading a video can now also be initiated, as well as canceled, by swiping the thumbnail to the left. Swiping to the right, for its part, lets you share, like, or watch later, depending on how far you swipe.

The new Vimeo update also allows any video, whether synced or not, to be shared via AirDrop. It also improves the Incoming feed so that you see more videos your friends are sharing on Facebook and Twitter. Moreover, it delivers bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Below are the complete release notes of the latest update to Vimeo, which include a reassurance to users that there's more to come:

  • Gesticulation nation: Swipe left or right on a thumbnail to Share, Like, Watch Later, or Add to Device.
  • Sharing is caring: Share any video through Airdrop; see more videos from Twitter and Facebook friends in your Incoming feed.
  • Better everywhere: We fixed some bugs and made playback and search speedier, easier, and cooler.
  • Patience, Grasshopper: Like all apps, this one is a work in progress. We’re striving to make it as awesome as we know it can be by adding features with every release. Thanks for understanding!

The new version of Vimeo is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later.
