How Low Can You Go In The New iOS Word Search Game Word Forward?

March 14, 2014
In Word Forward, a newly released word search game for iOS, it's perfectly OK to have a low score. In fact, the best score you can get in the game is zero. You see, Word Forward is played on a 5 x 5 grid of letters, each with its corresponding number of points. The total of these points is equal to the score indicated above the grid. Your goal is to reduce this score as low as you can, ideally down to zero. To do so, you have to connect and eliminate letters by forming dictionary words with them. But as noted by Word Forward developer Shane McCafferty, "It's just as important to think of the letters you leave behind as the ones you clear - after all you wouldn't want to paint yourself into a corner." If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. Should you find yourself in a pickle in Word Forward, you can choose to use special modifiers that let you:
  • SWAP any two letters on the grid by using a SWAP TOKEN, earned during gameplay.
  • REPLACE a letter on the grid with a SPARE from your inventory to make longer words.
  • JUMBLE the tiles on the grid to replace all the letters with new ones when all else fails.
  • CHANGE the letter on a tile to any other letter you choose using the SWAP MODIFIER.
  • ELIMINATE stubborn tiles with BOMBS when you can't make any more words and need to nudge your score over the line.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, Word Forward is available now in the App Store for free. The game offers in-app purchases for more coins, which can be spent on more modifiers. Word Forward, by the way, can be played solo or with friends via Game Center.
