The Microsoft Office Mobile App For iPhone Is Now Free For Home Users
March 28, 2014
Microsoft Office is finally available on Apple’s iPad. What you may not know is that Microsoft Office Mobile is now free for iPhone users.
First introduced in June 2013, Microsoft Office Mobile was Redmond’s first attempt at bringing its suite of products (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint) to iOS. Until now, the app would only work for Office 365 subscribers.
Free use of Microsoft Office Mobile is restricted to home use only. Business users will still need a $99 per year Office 365 subscription to use the app.
Earlier today, Joe White noted that Microsoft is paying Apple a 30 percent cut of Office 365 subscriptions purchased inside the recently released Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint apps for iPad. Apple's normal cut on app purchases had previously been “a big sticking point” between the two companies, as we’ve noted previously.
Microsoft Office Mobile is available as a free download on the App Store.
