The App Store takes delivery of hundreds of new apps per day. The overwhelming scene makes it possible to easily overlook an exciting game, valuable productivity suite, etc. However, we have a solution. Today’s Best Apps tackles this problem by providing you with a handpicked and tested list of apps that are truly worth your consideration each and everyday. Remember: Even though in-app purchases typically require your iTunes Store password for processing, you can further prevent them and other unauthorized actions by enabling local restrictions using the passcode locked iOS parental controls

Universal:

LEGO® Technic Race by The LEGO Group (Free, 54.8 MB): Take a seat and enjoy the fast-paced and action-packed challenge of this family-friendly, survival-type endless racer. From the simple slingshot launch to every abrupt lane change that avoids the barricades or blasts your vehicle ahead using the boost arrows, the goal is to maintain and gain speed. Obvious, right? Indeed, although, a bit more critical as success relies upon reaching checkpoints and the finish line before depleting your car, buggy, or truck's energy rather than just staying ahead of the pack. Nevertheless, don't be afraid to play dirty by bumping and blocking opponents, because they won't hesitate to plow a path. The game features 3-D graphics, rock music, three tracks with a specific vehicle each, trophy-style ranking system, and single finger control.

Lost Light by Disney ($1.99, 42.8 MB): The forest has gone dark and only you can bring back the vibrance by assembling the necessary matches in this charming and unique number-based puzzle game. To release the light that was captured by the Beasties, you'll need to perform two steps. The first step is to merge the special gem tiles to form a single, larger cell, which can be forged by linking them in any manner as long as they're adjacent; in other words, tetrominos. Next, you must construct an equal number of identically-sized bodies for the configuration to be a valid group. For example, any five tile-sized gems require four other five tile-sized gems nearby, i.e., five fives. Perhaps a bit confusing to understand now, though easy via the tutorial. Anyway, each stage has a different goal, such as a certain set of groups or a minimum point total, to accomplish within a restricted amount of time. The game features cartoony 2.5-D graphics, lighthearted soundtrack, 100 stages spanning four level packs, single finger control, three power-ups, and Game Center achievements.

Glorkian Warrior: Trials Of Glork by Pixeljam ($2.99, 61.5 MB): This Galaga, i.e., Space Invaders-inspired vertical shooting side-scroller provides nostalgia plus smile provoking play through a childish story and setting. Glork is a lone warrior who must defend the Glorkian's asteroid from an alien invasion. As the waves come swooping down, simply move the auto-firing Glorkian left and right to annihilate the offending vessels and collect the energy crackers left behind. On occasion, or more accurately, eventually, you'll be subjected to more difficult surprises, such as mini flying saucers escaping a larger ship's destruction or something far stranger, such as deadly basketballs. Basically, stand your ground as long as possible against the increasingly challenging onslaught before inevitably perishing. The game features hand-drawn 2-D graphics, humorous character commentary, fast-paced chiptunes, randomly generated enemy attacks, two levels of difficulty with a Game Center leaderboard each, 25 power-ups and other enhancements, and dual-thumb controls.

Dudeski by Static Oceans Corp. ($1.99, 98.4 MB): This old school-style vertical action-arcade game is certain to get you stoked. Not recommended for amateurs, Shred Lord Mountain's treacherous downhill course requires catlike reflexes to steer around and through gates, jump over bushes and rocks, as well as carve around trees and other obstacles, all while attempting to collect valuable pinecones. If you fail to do these critical actions, prepare for a crushing demise because every stumble puts you closer to the avalanche speeding in pursuit. The game features pixelated 2.5-D graphics, pleasant chiptunes, four mountain sections, dual-thumb controls, Game Center leaderboards and achievements, plus two gadgets, one improvement, and one special shortcut power-up to purchase.
