Withings Unveils Its Second-Generation Activity Tracker, The Pulse O2

April 22, 2014
While Nike is seemingly poised to jump out of the fitness tracker market, its full steam ahead for Withings. The French company today announced the second generation of its wearable device – the Withings Pulse O2. As the name suggests, the standout feature of the device is the ability to measure the pulse oxygen level of users. The measurement is taken on the back of the device, along with your pulse rate. An estimate of the oxygen saturation level in blood, the O2 reading assesses the overall function of your respiratory system. It has a number of uses, including letting mountain climbers and athletes training in high altitudes guard against hypoxia. It can also provide rapid assessment for users with breathing problems like asthma or bronchitis. The device also measures steps, elevation, distance, and calories burned. It can also be worn at night to analyze sleep patterns. With the free companion Withings Health Mate app, users can pair the Pulse O2 with their iOS device and break down their day-to-day progress on their fitness goals. Available now directly from Withings, the Pulse O2 retails for $119.95, a price in-line with most other trackers on the market. Buyers can select from a blue or black band to wear the device on their wrist. It can also be used with an included clip to attach to a belt or other apparel. Our own Joe White reviewed the first-generation device, the Withings Pulse, late last year. He liked the quick and easy syncing and touch responsive display, but did say that the heart rate monitor needs some work. Overall, he did recommend the product.
