Cydia Tweak: Here's How You Can Set iOS Actions For 'Knock' Gestures

May 19, 2014

Knock, a jailbreak tweak inspired by LG’s “KnockOn” feature, is now available to download and install from the Cydia Store.

The new package, which is actually an Activator add-on, can be purchased for $0.99, and once installed jailbreakers can access two new gestures from inside of Ryan Petrich’s (@rpetrich) popular Activator application: a gesture for knocking on the front of an iOS device, and a gesture for knocking on its side.

Both can be customized from inside Activator, which, as before, is available free of charge on the Cydia Store. The nature of Activator, however, means jailbreakers can have either “knock” gesture perform any task they wish.

This means you could have a front-knock gesture launch the Messages app, or a side-knock gesture initiate the iOS Camera application. The possibilities for what users can knock-to-activate are pretty vast.

The problem with Knock, though, comes in the form of its side-knock gesture. This unfortunately doesn’t work quite as well as the front-knock gesture, and as such users could find that their side-knocks often go unnoticed.

Given that Knock comes with a $0.99 price tag, this could put prospective customers off. If you’re happy to use the single front-knock gesture, however, Knock is a jailbreak tweak that could complement your jailbroken iOS device well.

Of course, you’ll need to have installed the free Activator package from the Cydia Store, too, in order for Knock to run.
