More Disruption Ahead As T-Mobile Announces Uncarrier 5.0 Event

May 29, 2014
T-Mobile has announced that it will be hosting a media event next month. Uncarrier 5.0 is being held in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, June 18, according to CNET. Little is known about the event, and the invitation titled “We don’t play it safe and sound,” gives very little away. CNET says:
Uncarrier 5.0 will mark the latest in a campaign that has allowed T-Mobile to roar back to not just simply customer growth, but also growth that actually outstripped the rest of the industry last quarter. Legere previously told CNET that the Uncarrier moves, which have ranged from the elimination of contracts to buying out the early termination fees of customers coming from rivals, are meant to be permanent changes to the carrier's offering.
The No. 4 carrier in the U.S. in recent months has announced a number of new initiatives that have disrupted the industry. This has included the elimination of domestic data overages and the introduction of a new cellular plan called Simple Starter for those who don’t use a lot of data. There have also been rumors that Sprint parent company Softbank might buy T-Mobile later this year.
