Reeder 2 Updated With Background App Refresh Plus Lots Of Improvements
May 27, 2014
Reeder 2, the acclaimed RSS feed reader app for iOS, has just received another major update.
The update, which brings the app to version 2.2, delivers a number of new features and improvements.
One of the more notable ones is support for iOS 7's Background App Refresh, which can be enabled on an account by account basis.
The new version of Reeder now also supports grouping by feed or date on Feed Wrangler smart streams. Furthermore, navigation panning (either left or right) is now possible on toolbars and empty areas in list views — not just strictly on the left and right screen edges.
There's also a new setting to disable displaying favicons in the subscription and article lists. The appearance of the article list entries has also been updated so that the "unread dot" is now at the upper right of the row, as in the current beta of Reeder for Mac (which was launched last month).
In addition, the latest update to Reeder 2 adds a couple of improvements to the app's browser: a loading progress indicator and a drag handle to the browser toolbar (suggesting that it can be swiped right or left to go back or forward).
The update also brings the following changes:
Plus fixes for the following:
- Reeder now can handle feed links (feed://) from external apps
- Pocket integration now uses OAuth
- Pinboard integration now uses API token
- Sharing via Messages now includes the title and link
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.1 or later, Reeder 2 is available in the App Store for $4.99. Reeder 2 was released in September last year. It received its 2.1 update in November, thereby gaining themes, feed grouping, and other features and improvements. For more information on Reeder 2, check out our original review here on AppAdvice.
