Apple Begins Implementing Two-Step Verification For Its iCloud Web App Suite

July 1, 2014
Apple is apparently rolling out its two-step authentication security feature to cover its iCloud Web app suite as well as Apple ID management and transaction authorization. The change was first noted by AppleInsider:
AppleInsider was able to confirm the new iCloud security feature is indeed Apple's normal two-factor authentication service, though it is unclear if the feature is in testing or nearing rollout. Certain Apple ID accounts we tested required the second verification, while though others did not.
Previously, access to iCloud.com was granted using only an Apple ID username and password combination. Now, though, Apple has begun implementing its two-factor verification method on iCloud.com. In addition to an Apple ID username and password combination, a four-digit verification code sent by the system to an associated device is now required. Upon successful verification, all iCloud Web apps are unlocked for normal access and use. Initially, with the two-step verification feature in effect, all Web apps but one are locked. The Find My iPhone Web app is accessible in any case, particularly in the event of an associated iOS device's getting lost or stolen. Two-step verification was launched by Apple for Apple IDs in March last year in the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. It was expanded to Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Portugal, and Russia the following May. As mentioned, two-step verification as it applies to iCloud Web apps is apparently in its initial rollout phase. Consequently, it's not yet implemented for all users. I, for one, don't see the feature enabled on my iCloud.com dashboard. How about you? Is two-step verification for iCloud Web apps already in place for you?
