It looks like split-screen multitasking and a "Transit" mode for the Maps app aren't the only hidden features lurking in the code of iOS 8. Because according to one iOS developer, Cupertino's iOS 8 also features "internal" preferences for "Alternate UI," allowing users to switch around the system font and design of various user interface elements in the mobile OS.
The news surfaced in a Twitter update from Hamza Sood (@HamzaSood), who posted images of Apple's Alternate UI (above and below) and said:
Here's iOS 8's internal "Alternate UI". Purple tint, orange switches, funky font. I have no idea why Apple made this.Of course, it's not clear whether this will feature in the final build of iOS 8 -- after all, Apple didn't formally unveil the above options during its WWDC keynote. Nevertheless, the discovery indicates that the company is at least considering bringing UI customization options to its mobile OS, and this is surprising news. As noted above, references to split-screen multitasking and a "Transit" mode for the Maps app have also been discovered recently, neither of which were mentioned on-stage during WWDC's keynote address, either. Could it be that the upcoming iOS 8 betas add some significant new features to the mobile OS, or will we have to wait for iOS 8.1? We'll keep you updated with further information as we receive it. In the meantime, we've included the complete selection of Hamza Sood's Alternate UI screenshots below. [gallery columns="2"] Via: Redmond Pie
