Cydia Tweak: Bring 'Alt+Tab' To iOS Using This Smart Package

June 2, 2014

Apple might be looking to further infuse elements of iOS in OS X this year, but one jailbreak tweak sets out to do the opposite. Called flipflop, the package adds an “Alt+Tab” function to iOS devices using Ryan Petrich's popular Activator package.

As such, you'll need to have installed the free Activator on your handset in order to take advantage of flipflop, though the package should be bundled with the new jailbreak tweak. Once installed, users can assign an Activator action to flipflop, and performing this action allows jailbreakers to quickly switch between two open iOS applications.

The action must be configured in the Settings app, and here users can choose any iOS gesture they wish to invoke flipflop. Though you'll need to be sure you don't use an iOS gesture that's already in use (unless you're choosing to remap the original gesture, too).

For example, flipflop indeed recommends the Home button for its Activator gesture. However, this will mean you'll need to set a further action for closing apps and returning to the Home screen.

Given that flipflop can be downloaded free of charge on the Cydia Store, it's worth taking for a spin. It'll be interesting to see if Apple implements a similar feature natively in iOS 8, which Cupertino is expected to show off later today at its WWDC keynote.
