Google Shuts Down Customer Feedback Platform TalkBin Due To Dwindling Usage

June 29, 2014
Google is set to shut down another one of its services, albeit a lesser known one than, say, Google Reader, which it discontinued last year. As reported by TechCrunch, the service in question is TalkBin, the customer feedback platform for businesses that the Internet giant acquired for an undisclosed amount in 2011. According to an email sent out by TalkBin to subscribers and inquirers, the service is being terminated by the end of next month on account of dwindling usage:
TalkBin usage has dwindled over the past 2 years, and we have decided to shut down the service on July 31st, 2014. Effective immediately, all billing has stopped for your existing locations in Talkbin. Talkbin will be completely shut down on July 31st, and all account data will be deleted shortly afterwards.
While the TalkBin website appears to be still up and running, existing users of the platform are no longer being billed and are advised to download an archive of their conversations. For $25 per month per location, TalkBin offered business owners "a data plan for customer feedback." In its email, Talkbin recommends OwnerListens, Talk to the Manager, and Quibble It as alternative services for its existing customers. The official iOS app of TalkBin, which was released in February 2011 and last updated in January 2012, was already pulled from the App Store earlier this week.
