Yahoo App Goes 5.0 With iPad Support, Digital Magazines And Snapshot Enhancements
June 26, 2014
Yahoo has just updated its flagship iOS app of the same name with universal support and a couple of other significant improvements.
Yahoo for iOS has gone 5.0, and with this "dot-oh" update comes the app's long-overdue universal support. The app was launched back in March 2009 for iPhone and iPod touch. But it's only now that Yahoo has been made natively compatible with and optimized for iPad.
With this universal update comes a new feature that lends itself with the larger screens of Apple's iPad and iPad mini: integration with digital magazines.
Built using the technology gained by Yahoo from its $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumblr last year, digital magazines are publications that combine original articles from the company and posts licensed from other sites, enhanced with large photos and videos, viewable in an endless stream. Note, though, that this stream also contains native ads or sponsored posts.
The new universal version of Yahoo also features enhancements with snapshots of local weather, news digest, stocks, sports, and popular photos and videos.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, Yahoo 5.0 is available now on the App Store for free.
