Bandai Namco To Shut Down iOS Edition Of Tales Of Phantasia Next Month
July 8, 2014
Bandai Namco has announced that it's set to shut down the iOS edition of Tales of Phantasia.
Originally released on Super Famicom in 1995 as the first installment in the Bandai Namco's popular Tales series of role-playing games, Tales of Phantasia made its debut on iOS last September in a Japanese version released in the Japanese App Store. It was made available in English with the release of Tales of Phantasia (English Ver.) in the App Store in North America just last January.
But now, it appears that Tales of Phantasia has been pulled from the Japanese App Store. And the English-language Tales of Phantasia is set to encounter the same fate next month.
As noted by Touch Arcade, Tales of Phantasia for iOS will be shut down on August 28, 2014, with the sale of in-app purchase items ending a month earlier, on July 29.
No particular reason has been given by Bandai Namco for the game's imminent shutdown. But the company has posted the following notice of termination of distribution in the game's App Store description:
We regret to inform you that we will cease distribution of this app on 08/28/2014 (Thursday). On this date, the app and all associated services will become unusable. This includes In-App Purchase items already purchased and save data. Furthermore, sale of In-App Purchase items will conclude on 07/29/2014 (Tuesday). We apologize sincerely to all of our customers for this inconvenience, and hope you continue to enjoy our products and services in the future.Tales of Phantasia (English Ver.) is available on the App Store for free. Download it now if you don't mind being able to play it only for the next seven weeks or so.
