Logitech's protection+, +drive and +trip offer smart protection for your iPhone

July 16, 2014

Logitech has announced the upcoming availability of its “protection+” case for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5. Promising “a slim yet ultra-protective outer shell, flex-resistant corners, and impact-absorbent channels,” the case is designed to work alongside several in-car attachments called +trip and +drive.

Concerning the protection+ case itself, Logitech explains in a press release:

The protection+ case features a hard polycarbonate body with impact-resistant polymers in each corner that mitigate damage from impacts by absorbing shocks and dissipating them across the surface of your case. Additionally, tucked inside its polycarbonate shell, the case has impact channels and a layer of thermoplastic rubber to further absorb vibrations. For added assurance, Logitech protection+ exceeds the U.S. Military drop-test standard (MIL-STD 810 G) for “rugged” devices, protecting your phone from drops up to 1.8 meters high.

Usefully, the case also features “a hidden metal plate” that’s compatible with Logitech’s range of smartphone mounts, including the new +drive and +trip accessories.

First up, +drive allows protection+ owners to attach their smartphone to a car’s windshield or dashboard using a single twist-activated suction cup.

A magnet in +drive secures the smartphone in place, and two universal adapters are designed “to seamlessly hold any smartphone or case vertically or horizontally,” according to Logitech.

The new +trip, on the other hand, is a different kind of in-car mount:

The +trip quickly clips to any air vent in your vehicle to keep your smartphone secure and in view. A magnet securely holds your smartphone to the +trip mount, so you can keep your audio, navigation and phone calls right where you want them. The small and stylish +trip is designed for use during daily commutes and business trips. The +trip mount includes two universal adapters, so it’s compatible with smartphones of all shapes and sizes.

Logitech’s protection+, +drive, and +trip products are expected to launch in the United States and Europe in August, and suggested retail prices are $34.99, $49.99, and $29.99 (respectively).
