Report says 3 Apple 'iWatches' are coming, along with an 'iPad Pro'
July 15, 2014
Apple’s long-rumored “iWatch” may arrive in three main variants. The first will include a 1.6-inch display, while the other two will feature a 1.8-inch panel. Only one of these units will make use of sapphire glass for its display, according to Taiwan’s Economic Daily.
According to the report, each iWatch variant will feature touch sensors from TPK. This new technology uses silver nanowire ink, as opposed to indium tin oxide. Besides offering improved conductive properties, the silver nanowire ink would allow Apple to fit its products with sapphire glass, without having to add extra sensors for accurately determining touch location.
Interestingly enough, the report says that Apple will launch the iWatch before the end of September. Another recent report said that Apple's wearable device wouldn’t enter mass production until November.
Finally, The Economic Daily says that work continues on the so-called “iPad Pro,” noting that the long-rumored 12.9-inch device could arrive by the end of the 2014.
It should be noted that The Economic Daily isn't always the best source for Apple news. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple launch three different iWatch models. An iPad Pro launching this year? Less likely.
