Facebook has just introduced a new app. But not just anyone can use it.
Only available to verified public figures using Pages, Facebook Mentions is designed to make it easier for famous users to talk and interact with their fans.
According to Facebook, influencers can use the app to do a number of things, including:
See what fans are saying about you and join the conversation. Share your story by posting updates, sharing photos or videos, or hosting a live Q&A. Join popular conversations on Facebook and see the latest posts from people you follow. Get streamlined notifications about your posts, including mentions from other influencers or the media. And according to Re/Code, who has actually used the app, the emphasis is on posting new messages, photos, and videos:
There is a Mentions tab that’s supposed to make it easy for stars to see what people are saying about them. It looks strikingly like the “@” tab that Twitter has always had — and also uses the term “mentions.”Designed for the iPhone/iPod touch, Facebook Mentions can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. Administrators of a verified Page can request access to Mentions directly here, or through the app. It’s currently available for users in the United States, but Facebook is planning to roll the app out to more countries soon.
