Yelp app users can now add short videos to their reviews

July 28, 2014
Even Yelp is getting in on the video craze. The popular iOS app has just been updated with a major new feature. Starting with version 8.1.0, users can add videos of anywhere from three to 12 seconds long to help document their experience at local businesses. Yelp talked more about the feature in a blog post:
Worried your video skills are not up to par? We’re not looking for Ken Burns-level documentary filmmaking - it’s actually more helpful to see what a real-life consumer experience looks like without fancy editing or narration. These are not intended to be “video reviews,” but rather an extension of the visual experience. Sound trippy? Here’s what we mean: These short videos are great for conveying the atmosphere of a business, which helps others anticipate their experience before stopping by. For instance, imagine scrolling through pics of delicious dishes at a new bistro but not really being able to tell if the ambiance is more “date night” or “family friendly.” Yelp video is here to help.
The blog post also offers some good examples of videos taken by Yelp users. A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Yelp can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. Before today’s change, the last major update to the app arrived back in late April. Along with making it easier to sign up for a Yelp account, version 7.7 brought updated profile pages and a swipe-to-go-back feature.
