Apple could sell a record number of 'iPhone 6' units during the first weekend
Sales records typically fall on the weekend that Apple releases a new iPhone. We could see more of the same this year.
Using data from a recent RBC Capital Markets analysis, a new Statista infographic shows how many iPhones were sold during the first weekend since 2008. As you can see, RBC projects “iPhone 6” sales of 10 million units for the weekend.
According to analyst Amit Daryanani, Apple could sell as many as 75 million new iPhones between October and December.
Apple is likely to unveil new iPhones on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Assuming that past practice is followed, this would mean the new handset would arrive in stores on Friday, Sept. 19. The big unknown is whether Apple will release both the rumored 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models on the same day.
Recent rumors suggest the larger model might not be released until later in the year. First weekend sales would be affected by this, as some customers might elect to wait for the larger model.
