Recently featured in Apple's 'Dreams' ad, ForeFlight Mobile soars with major update

Hot on the heels of its being featured in Apple's new "Dreams" ad for the iPhone 5s (shown below), the popular aviation app ForeFlight Mobile has just landed a new major update. The update, which elevates ForeFlight Mobile to version 6.3, introduces a couple of significant new features. One is a new feature called Track Log. This is a cloud-enabled flight recorder that lets you record and share your flight track and altitude data straight from ForeFlight Mobile:

6.3 introduces a new flight track recording feature that synchronizes recorded flight tracks across all your devices using Sync, enables uploading of flight tracks to the cloud, exports data to flight review and mapping apps, and lets you share flight track data with others. Enable track log controls via the More > Settings view. The flight track recording feature also provides a means for collecting GPS data in support of operator authorizations for use of airport moving map.

If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. The other major new feature in ForeFlight Mobile 6.3 is Weight & Balance. As its name suggests, it constitutes an aircraft weight and balance solution. It comes preloaded with support for more than 100 aircraft models and a smart setup wizard for easy configuration based on FAA Type Certificate Data Sheet and Service Bulletin records. Weight & Balance includes the following sub-features:

• Multiple fixed-arm fuel stations
• One variable-arm fuel station (i.e. a single fuel moment table)
• Gear retract moment change
• Station specific weight limit checks
• Weight limit checks for ramp, takeoff, landing, as well as zero fuel weight
• Forward and aft CG limit checks
• Audible out-of-balance alert
• Add any number of stations in each aircraft
• Add any number of loads at each station

Note that Weight & Balance requires a ForeFlight Pro subscription. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.1 or later, ForeFlight Mobile 6.3 is available now on the App Store for free, with in-app purchases offered for premium subscriptions. ForeFlight Mobile 6.3, by the way, enables the annotations feature for all subscription levels.
