Apple and U2 reportedly working on marketing tie-up for 'iPhone 6'

Apple may be planning a marketing tie-up with U2 for the so-called “iPhone 6.”

As noted by 9to5Mac, multiple rumors point toward a partnership between the iPhone maker and the world-famous Irish rock band for the launch of the highly anticipated next-generation smartphone.

Some local journalists in Dublin report that the video shoot done there by U2 last week starred what could be the new iPhone. The new video is said to be directed by Mark Romanek, who happens to have also directed past Apple commercials including one for the iPhone 4S and the “Vertigo” iPod ad below featuring none other than U2:

Apple is also rumored to preload the iPhone 6 with U2′s latest album. As well, a single from the album is said to be debuted by U2 at Apple’s special media event on Tuesday, Sept. 9, which is widely expected to see the introduction of the new device.

If true, Apple and U2′s iPhone 6 partnership will come about a decade after the two parties’ tie-up for the U2 iPod, a special edition of Apple’s monochrome iPod bearing the red and black color scheme of U2′s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” album.

U2 has had a long-standing partnership with Apple. In particular, the company has been one of the top contributors to the (Red) anti-AIDS charity cofounded by U2 frontman Bono.

Of course, there’s also the Artists icon in Apple’s iPod and Music apps, which shows a silhouette of the popular mononymic musician.
