OverNear gets rebranded and retooled as Rowl to take on Foursquare's Swarm
Remember OverNear, the location-based app that sought to move your social network from online to “on-land”? Well, it’s OverNear no more. Rather, it has been rebranded and retooled as Rowl.
Rowl offers a clutter-free way to discover and share what’s happening around you and where you’ll be. Primarily taking on the likes of Swarm by Foursquare, the app also allows you to easily connect and make plans with your friends based on your location.
Rowl includes the following key features:
- Looking for something to do? Events based on your interests, your friends suggestions and your location now and in the future are all a finger tap away. Just show up.
- Going out or out of town? Rowl finds the events you care about and even tells you if your friends will be there.
- From live performances to underground parties, friend’s bashes to food trucks, Rowl automatically recommends and notifies you before they happen. You just have to show up.
- Share your events and take the hassle out of invitations or 1on1 scheduling. The more the merrier.
- Have time to kill? Rowl notifies you of the events and people you care about in the area. Rowl up on your friends anytime, any place.
- Archive all of your events with comments and photos to remember your epic day.
As expected, OverNear is no longer available on the App Store.
But if you currently have OverNear on your iOS device, make sure to sign out and delete the app before installing Rowl. Note that all of your previous data will be lost, although the Rowl team promises that the new app is “well worth it.”
