SNK Playmore makes The Rhythm of Fighters free-to-play, extends $0.99 sale on iOS
Just over a couple of months after its release, SNK Playmore’s The Rhythm of Fighters has gone free-to-play.
The Rhythm of Fighters is an iOS rhythm-based game featuring tracks from SNK’s classic game series including The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug.
From its launch until today, the game cost $0.99 to download from the App Store, with in-app purchases offered for additional tracks. Now, though, it has been made available to download for free, but still with in-app purchases offered for additional tracks.
If you’re one of the players who got it for a dollar, don’t worry. You’re eligible to get five original Neogeo tracks free of charge. Just make sure to update to the new version of The Rhythm of Fighters, instead of uninstalling the old premium version and installing the new freemium one, to be able to download the limited-edition tracks.

Last month, SNK reduced the price of each of its other games on the App Store to just $0.99 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of The King of Fighters. The sale was supposed to run from Aug. 22 through Aug. 26 only.
But SNK has extended the promo indefinitely. So, if you haven’t downloaded the following games, better grab them now at just $0.99 each before they revert to their regular prices:
- The King of Fighters ’98 – from $3.99 to $0.99
- The King of Fighters ’97 – from $3.99 to $0.99
