Apple's iPad Air 2 will ditch the classic side switch, but iPad mini 3 won't
October 16, 2014
From the moment of the iPad’s birth in 2010, the side switch has always had an awkward existence. Carried over from the iPhone lineup, first it was a rotation-lock switch, then it was a “permanent” mute switch, and up until now, it’s been up for users to decide.
But with the new iPad Air 2, there will be no side switch. It only makes sense that muting and rotation locking will have to be controlled solely from iOS’ interface as a result. Will both toggles now be in Control Center? How will we even deal deal with this?
And why does the iPad mini 3 get to keep the switch?
Are you mad about the next generation iPads lacking the switch you’ve become accustomed to? What do you have yours set as?
