Nike+ Running update offers elevation tracking, integration with the Health app in iOS 8

October 28, 2014

If you’re looking for a great way to burn off that latest Taco Bell order you placed with an iPhone, take a look at the recently updated Nike+ Running app.

Version 4.6 of the activity tracking app brings a trio of new features.

First up, it’s now even easier to start a run with the new quick start feature. Simply press and hold the “Begin Run” button, and you can begin. Swiping in either direction to control music, view running stats, and a live map.

Nike+ Running is now also integrated with Apple’s Health app in iOS 8. By accessing that data users can see even more detailed information about their run, including heart rate monitor support.

Finally, users with an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus can now automatically track their elevation with the built-in M8 coprocessor. The app is also optimized for the higher resolution screen of those handsets.

Designed for the iPhone, Nike+ Running can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

Last week, we reported that Nike seems to be interested in continuing a longtime partnership with Apple. My colleague Bryan M. Wolfe even said he wouldn’t be surprised to see some type of Nike-branded Apple Watch in the future.
