Living Earth now features universe simulation, Today widget and iPhone 6 support

November 11, 2014

Living Earth, the popular clock and weather app developed by Radiantlabs, has just received a noteworthy update.

Most notably, the update makes Living Earth a universe simulator in addition to its core feature of being a world simulator. As explained by Radiantlabs:

We’ve added our universe in the backdrop, rendered with precision and beauty. Stars, constellations, and the Milky Way are all displayed accurately in time and space. Built from a database of thousands of stars and celestial objects, we made sure the colors, brightness, and placement are all true to life and placed exactly as if you were floating in space orbiting our planet. Can you find your favorite constellations? Try zooming our planet out and placing it in a slow spin for the ultimate spacewalk experience (best on iPad!).

Another notable new feature introduced in the new version of Living Earth is support for the app’s own Today widget in the Notification Center in iOS 8. Living Earth’s Today widget offers a quick view of the current weather, sunrise and sunset times, world clock, and even current tropical storms. Tapping on any item in the widget brings up its details in Living Earth.

The latest update to Living Earth also extends the forecasts from seven days to 10 days.

What’s more, it brings display optimizations for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, including a new landscape mode on the latter. Performance optimizations are also brought by the update, including support for 60 fps rendering on the latest iOS devices.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, the new version of Living Earth is available now on the App Store as a free update or as a new paid download.

In celebration of its latest update, Living Earth is available for $1.99, instead of its regular price of $2.99, until Friday, Nov. 14.

Living Earth is featured both in our Best iPhone Weather Apps AppGuide and in our Best iPad Weather Apps AppGuide.
