Podcast app Overcast goes universal with iPad support and landscape orientation
In its biggest update yet, podcast app Overcast has added two great new features.
First up, the app is universal and designed for the iPad/iPad mini right along with the iPhone/iPod touch. The app now also supports landscape orientation on all devices.
Version 1.1 also supports CarPlay-enabled car audio systems. That’s a perfect addition for drivers who like to listen to their favorite podcast on the road.
Overcast can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. With an in-app purchased of $4.99 users can unlock all features, including cellular downloading and adjustable playback speed.
The app originally arrived back in July. In our original review, Christine Chan had some high praise for the app, developed by Marco Arment.
At the moment, Overcast is so close to being perfect that I am considering retiring Pocket Casts from my home screen. I just need streaming support and it’s a done deal. I love the features in Overcast as it just improves the listening experience so much — I dropped the $5 for all features almost instantly, and don’t regret it.
If you’re looking for a top-notch experience for listening to podcasts, I highly recommend checking out Overcast: Podcast Player — it’s excellent.
The app was named as our AppAdvice App of the Week shortly after its release.
Robin Rhys also took a look at the app in an episode of AppAdvice Daily.
