With Spotify Connect, use your iOS device as a remote control for a Mac

November 7, 2014

Spotify has just rolled out an interesting new feature for premium subscribers with an iOS device and Mac. With Spotify Connect, you can play music on a desktop while using an iPad or iPhone as the remote.

Here’s a quick promo video about the feature. Click here if you can’t see it.

In a blog post, Spotify has instructions on how to get the feature working:

1. Make sure you’ve got the latest version of Spotify on both your computer and your phone/tablet.
2. Log in to Spotify on your phone/tablet, and play any song.
3. Tap the Now Playing bar, and hit the Connect icon.
4. Select your computer from the list, and let the music flow.

The Spotify app is universal for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. A premium subscription costs $9.99 per month.

Last week, the app was updated with a pair of improvements for iPad users – a dark theme and the addition of the Your Music feature.

Spotify’s Mac client is available to download here.
