Apple's new Florida store to feature artwork from Hense, will also open on Watch launch day
Apple really is going all out for its incoming Watch. Besides launching a brand new store in Hanghzou, China on April 24 (also known as “Apple Watch Launch Day”), Cupertino is opening another new store in Miami, Florida on the same day, and has planned something special to mark the occasion.
In a post added to its website, Apple has announced that the acclaimed artist “HENSE” is collaborating with the company for its Florida retail store opening, and will be creating artwork live from the site between April 8 and April 12. Online, Cupertino explains:
Miami is one of the most creative places on Earth. A big part of that creativity is expressed through its incredible street art scene. So to announce the upcoming opening of the all‑new Apple Store at 1021 Lincoln Road, we’re collaborating with internationally acclaimed artist HENSE. The mural he’s painting, like the store itself, will not only be inspired by the energy of Miami, it will also be a fresh source of inspiration for the city.
Of course, the timing for the store’s HENSE artwork, much like its scheduled opening day, is no coincidence: preorders for the Apple Watch launch on April 10, mid-way through HENSE’s four-day endeavor, and the store itself is launching the same day Cupertino’s long anticipated smartwatch finally goes on sale. What better way to get a city and its public to focus on the new products you’re selling than by having an internationally acclaimed artist live-paint your storefront? In Apple’s post, HENSE describes the project as “new and innovative,” and this is exactly the kind of image Cupertino likes.
As mentioned, Apple’s Watch-coordinated retail efforts extend beyond Florida. In time for the launch of its first wearable, Apple is opening a brand new store in Hanghzou, China, around three miles from a further store which launched in the area three months ago. With interest in the luxury Apple Watch Edition expected to center in the country, it’s no surprise Cupertino is adding a new store to its list of China-based venues in time for April 24.
The store in Florida, on the other hand, is taking the place of a smaller venue up the road.
Preorders for the Apple Watch begin this Friday, April 10, and the device is indeed scheduled to launch two weeks later, on April 24.
