Apple’s iOS 9 will reportedly support Force Touch for the 'iPhone 6s'
Force Touch is apparently headed to the next-generation iPhone. According to a new report from 9to5Mac, iOS 9 will support the technology for the upcoming “iPhone 6s.”
The technology made its debut in the pictured Apple Watch and has expanded to the new MacBook and a new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

Additionally, Force Touch on the iPhone will offer similar functionality to the Force Touch Trackpads built into new Retina MacBooks and Retina MacBook Pros. Force Touch will be integrated into Maps to drop new pins, into media players for pressure-sensitive scrolling, into the Calendar for adding new events, and across the system for quickly looking up word definitions, according to sources who have used Force Touch on prototype versions of the “iPhone 6S.” However, as Force Touch is tied into new and unannounced hardware, it’s unlikely that the support will be announced at WWDC.
The site also says that other minor changes will be coming to both iMessage and the stock keyboard in iOS 9.
In iMessage, Apple will be adding support for read receipts on group chat threads and the capability to send read receipts on a contact-by-contact basis.
The iOS 9 stock keyboard may also be in for a bit of a redesign, including the addition of a number of new editing controls in portrait mode. Apple has apparently also redesigned the shift key to make it easier for users to see when the shift or caps lock is activated.
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 9, along with OS X 10.11, at WWDC early next month. Some of the other reported additions in iOS 9 include a new system font – San Francisco – and possible support for spilt-screen multitasking on the iPad.
There will also be a specific focus on making iOS more stable.
