Spotify unveils a new feature in its battle against Apple Music

In the midst of its battle against Apple Music, Spotify has just unveiled an interesting new feature for subscribers.

Discover Weekly will be updated every Monday morning and offer a two-hour long playlist with custom recommendations tailored specifically to users. Each song is based on what you’re listening to and what other users with similar musical tastes are playing on the service.

The feature will soon be available through the iOS app, and through all other platforms, at the top of your playlist folder. Just to note, since the list is automatically refreshed every week, make sure to save any of your favorite songs for later listening

Spotify’s iOS app is universal and designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. A subscription costs the industry standard $9.99 per month.

Even before Apple Music’s late June launch, Spotify has been busy beefing up its feature set to help keep subscribers. Back in May, the company added podcasts and a large amount of video content to the mix.

And earlier this month, Spotify sent out a detailed message to users who auto-renew their subscription through the App Store and pay $12.99 per month. Transitioning over to a Web-based account could save users $3 per month as Spotify doesn’t have to give a 30 percent cut to Apple.

As a big fan of Spotify, I’m really pleased to see the new Discover Weekly feature. With Apple Music placing such a big emphasis on music discovery and curation – especially with the fantastic For You feature – it’s nice to see Spotify help subscribers hear what they’ve been missing.
