Try out third-party complications on your Apple Watch with The Night Sky
Are you looking for a fun app to try out the new third-party complications feature in WatchOS 2.0? Beautiful astronomy app The Night Sky has just recently been updated with a number of Apple Watch and iOS 9 improvements.
Explore the sky from your watchThe app is now fully native in WatchOS 2.0. Instead of needing to communicate with your iPhone, the app runs directly on the Apple Watch. That should lead to a faster and overall better experience.
You can also add a third-party complication to the main watch screen that will inform you of the next flyover time of the International Space Station. To activate that, you’ll need to Force Touch your main watch screening then select Customize. Then choose “The Night Sky” complication.
Here’s an interactive preview of the app from our sister site WatchAware.
From the watch app, users can also take advantage of the new Sky View that showcases detailed astronomy information. You can move through the sky using the Digital Crown. Ready for iOS 9 and the iPhone 6sAnd that’s not all as developer iCandi Apps has also made the app ready for iOS 9, the iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus.
Along with full multitasking for the iPad, the app offers 3D Touch support for Apple’s latest handsets. And with Spotlight search, you can search for celestial objects without even having to open up the app.
As a nice touch, thanks to iOS 9’s App Thinning, it will take up less space on your device.
WrapupA universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, The Night Sky can be downloaded now on the App Store for $0.99. There are a number of in-app purchases available.
Another app available to download now with a third-party complication is The Weather Channel app. Watch users can view the chance of rain directly from their watch face. That app is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and can be downloaded now for free.
With WatchOS 2.0 making its official debut, expect to see many more apps arriving soon with third-party complications and other features designed for the new Apple Watch software. Our own Sandy Stachowiak will offer a round-up of all of those new apps soon.
