Apple launches new dev kits for its upcoming Apple TV
Apple contacted developers late on Friday evening, explaining that a new selection of development kits for its upcoming, revamped Apple TV (including units of the device) are now available to order.
The email (which reached us from MacRumors) notes that the kits had been launched due to “overwhelming demand” for the device, which brings core features of Apple’s iOS to the living room. Much like the original kits, Apple is charging developers $1 in order to verify their billing addresses. Once verified, the new device will ship out to developers within one to three business days, free of charge.
Apple explained in its email:
Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve made more Apple TV Developer Kits available and you’ve been selected to receive one. Simply sign in with your developer account, agree to the terms and conditions, and submit your order by 5:00 p.m.local time on October 9, 2015.
The brand new, next-generation Apple TV offers number of marked improvements when compared against the previous-generation device. Aside from offering support for an integrated App Store and Siri (via an all-new, touch-based remote), it boasts a new operating system, tvOS, and a more powerful A8 processor.
Apple’s new Apple TV is “coming soon” to a living room near you, and once available, it’ll be priced at $149. We can’t wait to get our hands on the device.
