Vote with your wallet using the updated Buycott app
You don’t have to wait for election time in order to bring about change by voting. You can make a difference right now by “voting with your wallet” using the newly updated Buycott app.
What’s BuycottBuycott is a simple yet remarkable app that helps consumers like you make ethical choices in order to effect change.
The app works by encouraging you to join campaigns, with causes ranging from animal welfare to women’s rights, so that you can “buycott” or avoid purchasing products from corporate entities and their affiliates whose policies and practices are in conflict with your principles.
When you’re out shopping, you can use Buycott to scan the barcode of a product and the app will let you know if it goes against any of the campaigns you’re subscribed to. This way, you can make an informed decision as to whether to proceed with your purchase or buy a competing but compliant product instead.
What’s new in Buycott 3.0And now, Buycott has been updated to version 3.0 to empower you further by enabling you to communicate your decision to the concerned company. Now, you have the option to notify the company of the motivation behind your purchase decision via Facebook, Twitter, email, or Buycott itself.
“People not buying the product is not as important as calling the company out publicly, putting them on blast and making it clear they’re not getting away with the things they thought they could get away with,” Buycott tells BuzzFeed News.
You can now also get your friends and followers involved by sharing your purchase decision via Facebook, Twitter, email, or text.
An all-new interface is also brought about the latest update to Buycott, which arrives over a year after the app’s last update.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Buycott 3.0 is available now on the App Store for free.
