Apple is set to open its first official facility focused on iOS app development in Europe.

As announced by the company in a press release, the iOS App Development Center will be located at a partner institution in Naples, Italy. It will provide teachers with a specialized curriculum to help train students in the development of apps for Apple’s mobile operating system.

“Europe is home to some of the most creative developers in the world and we’re thrilled to be helping the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy get the skills they need for success,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. “The phenomenal success of the App Store is one of the driving forces behind the more than 1.4 million jobs Apple has created in Europe and presents unlimited opportunities for people of all ages and businesses of all sizes across the continent.”

According to Apple, developers in Europe have earned over €10.2 billion from worldwide sales of their apps on the App Store, and more than 75,000 jobs in Italy are held by people building apps for iOS.

Needless to say, the creation of the iOS Development Center will be a boon to the iOS app economy of the country and of the continent.

And here’s hoping that Apple will fulfill its expectations of opening additional iOS Development Centers in other countries around the world to bolster the global iOS app economy.

Earlier this month, Apple announced that last Christmas season was the App Store’s “biggest ever,” with a record-breaking iOS app sales total of $1.1 billion. A subsequent analyst estimate determined that Apple pulled in approximately $6.4 billion in revenue from App Store purchases.
