Take to the sky in Piloteer, Apple’s latest free App of the Week

Pocket Gaming
January 29, 2016

It’s time to grab a jetpack and get flying in Apple’s latest selection for free App of the Week. Until next Thursday, Feb. 4, the fun game Piloteer can be downloaded on the App Store for no charge. The game is usually $1.99.

Fly, if you can

The game is from Whitaker Trebella, the same developer behind Pivvot and Polymer. Gamers are required to accomplish a number of tasks while flying around different environments with a jetpack strapped to their back. It’s much more difficult than it sounds as the control scheme is simple to learn but extremely difficult to master.

crash

Be prepared to crash, a lot, while getting a hang of the control scheme.

In our original review, Christine Chan had high praise for both the visuals and game’s soundtrack:

If you’re used to the simplistic style of Trebella’s other games, then you’re in for a surprise with Piloteer. The visuals are stunningly beautiful in this game, as it features creative, hand-crafted crayon drawings for each environment as well as your character, and it has that papier-mâché look and feel to it. Everything seems to just come alive on your screen, and that’s wonderful. The colors are rich and vibrant, and Trebella made sure to add incredible amounts of details on the various objects that you can land or crash on. It has a classic retro theme going on, which is wrapped up in steampunk game menus and news tickers. The piano music is calming and soothing, and the sound effects are delightful. Trebella has hit another one out of the park in terms of visual and audible design.

Piloteer is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store.
