The curtain closes for the Yahoo Screen video hub

Yahoo Screen is history. The company shut down its video hub last week. The news was first reported by Variety.

The service’s iPhone and iPad app is no longer available to download on the App Store or use on the Apple TV. According to the beleaguered company, the video content will be distributed to its numerous other digital magazine properties:

“At Yahoo, we’re constantly reviewing and iterating on our products as we strive to create the best user experience,” said a Yahoo rep Monday, who confirmed the brand was shuttered last week. “With that in mind, video content from Yahoo as well as our partners has been transitioned from Yahoo Screen to our Digital Magazine properties so users can discover complementary content in one place.”

Resurrecting “Community” wasn’t enough to help Yahoo Screen gain any traction.

Originally launched back in 2011, the service arrived on iOS devices in 2013. Yahoo attempted to turn the property into a Netflix and YouTube competitor as it made big moves like bringing back fan-favorite show “Community.”

Yahoo also reportedly paid more than $10 million for the rights to air a single NFL game on the service back in October. The game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars was plagued by some technical difficulties for viewers even though the viewership numbers were strong.
