Some notable changes are coming soon to the popular card battle game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.
Blizzard recently announced that in a future update, arriving sometime this spring, a new battle mode named Standard will officially make its debut.
Designed to help keep the game fresh and accessible to new players, Standard mode allows players to battle each other only using cards released in the current and previous calendar year along with a set of basic and classic cards. Gamers will battle other users with the same deck.
It will only be available as a play format in Friendly Challenge, Ranked, and Casual play. That means it won’t affect Arena, Solo play, or Adventures.
In this new video Ben Brode, lead designer for the game, discusses more about the changes. Click here if you can’t see it.
The current gameplay mode will be renamed Wild. Any of the cards gamers have collected can be used in that mode. Nothing else will change and you’ll be pitted against other players with a Wild deck.
After the changes, you’ll be able to select from the Standard or Wild mode for ranked play.
Gamers should also be pleased to hear about a nice change to the Collection Manager. If all nine heroes have been unlocked, they’ll receive nine more deck slots for a grand total of 18.
