Skype for iPhone updated for Valentine's Day with Love Mojis from Paul McCartney

As the Beatles song goes, “All you need is love.” And in celebration of Valentine’s Day, Skype has updated its official iPhone app to help you share the love using special Love Mojis made by the popular VoIP and instant messaging company in partnership with a Beatles member.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, we’ve got brand new Valentine’s hearts … just for you,” Skype writes in its release notes for the latest update to its iPhone app. These Valentine’s hearts, which you can send within chats, tie in with the new Love Mojis created by the company in collaboration with none other than Sir Paul McCartney.

Mojis are Skype’s versions of enhanced emoji and animated stickers, featuring sound as well as video. In time for Valentine’s Day, Skype has come up with a new set of love-inspired Mojis that pair Skype’s original visual designs with McCartney’s musical compositions, “so you can always express your love to friends and family around the world, no matter what you’re trying to say.”

To send Love Mojis in a chat, just tap the smiley button above the keyboard, tap the heart tab, and choose from the set of available Love Mojis, which includes a sumo wrestler as Cupid, a flirting banana, two snakes tangled in love, and more. There you can also access a collection of love-inspired Mojis featuring characters from “The Muppets” and romantic Bollywood films.

Aside from Love Mojis, the latest update to Skype also brings a couple of notable improvements. One, you can now easily open Microsoft Office documents (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and presentations (PowerPoint) that have been shared in Skype. And two, you can now save a video you’ve received or a video message you’ve recorded straight to your device’s Photos app.

Skype for iPhone is available on the App Store for free. It’s optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later. It also comes with an Apple Watch companion that lets you see your notifications and chat right on your wrist.
