Classic video game console emulatorVectrex for iOS aka Vectrex Regeneration is an emulator app dedicated to classic games played on the vector display-based home video game console of the same name popular during the 1980s. Since its launch on iOS in November 2012, the app has offered the following original titles: Armor Attack, Bedlam, Bezerk, Blitz, Cosmic Chasm, Fortress of Narzod, Heads Up, Hyperchase, Pole Position, Rip Off, Scramble, Solar Quest, Spike, Star Castle, Starhawk, Star Shiphip, and WebWars. As well, it has offered the indie titles Continuum, Thrust, Vector 21, and War of the Robots.
The game’s “attention to detail and delivery of a contemporary experience that evokes authentic feelings of nostalgia” has earned it a BAFTA Award for Technical Achievement and led to its being considered one of the best compilations of retro games on iOS.
Version 2.0Over three years after its release, Vectrex for iOS has finally received its first major update. And this update brings the app to version 2.0.
Vectrex 2.0 sees the addition of new games to the collection. There are a couple of new original games, Polar Rescue and Space Wars, and a new indie game called Veccy Bird.
The update also brings support for MFi game controllers for iPhone. That’s in addition to the app’s long-standing support for the iCade portable arcade cabinet for iPad.
Moreover, Vectrex 2.0 includes optimized performance and visuals (with adjustable glow), support for more iOS devices, expanded language support (French, German, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese, in addition to English), and various tweaks and improvements.
