BEST
APPS
of the
WEEK
September 22, 2017
It's been a busy, exciting week for apps, with the release of iOS 11 and its new technology. Our best apps of the week is dominated by ARKit and Machine Learning apps, but I also found a cool electronic music creation app and a way to keep up with what's happening in the Supreme Court of the United States. On to the apps!
Dropped
The perfect clipboard for your iPad
Drag and drop has come to iOS, so now a decent clipboard manager is more important than ever. Enter Dropped, an app that can copy, paste, drag, and drop almost anything.
My Very Hungry Caterpillar AR
The Very Hungry Caterpillar comes to life in the real world
Children of many ages love Eric Carle's character The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Now, kids can enjoy the munching many-legged insect in their real backyard through AR.
Magic Sudoku
The best way to "cheat" at Sudoku
ARKit and Machine Learning provide excellent examples of what our iPhones are capable of. Here's an app that combines the two to solve the most popular genre of math puzzle.
Airmail
A great email app that's even better on an iOS 11-based iPad
Airmail already supported 3D Touch, fast document previewing, high quality PDF creation, and native integration with other apps and services. On iOS 11, the all-in-one email app has become even more powerful.
Samplebot
A collector of sounds and crafter of songs
Here's a finger-drummable looping sequencer of rainbow glory that wants to be your friend. Come. Play. Robo-boogie.
TapMeasure
A complete measurement and level toolkit on your iPhone
TapMeasure provides a 3D room builder, quick measure feature, and a smart level. You can create outlines, share your models, and capture and measure your space easily.
SMS Shield
Perhaps the most advanced SMS spam filter available
Spam email is bad enough, but when they get a hold of your phone number and start texting you ... it's horrible. Here's an app that uses Machine Learning to detect and filter SMS spam.
IKEA Place
Bring the IKEA store right into your home
Home decorating is challenging, because what looks fabulous on a showroom floor doesn't always fit our space. IKEA aims to help with that struggle through the use of ARKit.
Visual Codes
The app for making and sharing QR codes
Now that QR code scanning is native to the iOS 11 Camera app, the pixelated code blocks could easily make a comeback. Here's an app that will help you generate and share your own QR codes with ease.
