It’s time to say hello, again, to an iPad Pro. Earlier this week, Apple announced a smaller version of the tablet with a 9.7-inch screen. Orders kicked off yesterday, and the tablet will officially hit the market next week on Thursday, March 31. And to help it make it easy for anyone looking for a case, we’re featuring seven great options for the new tablet.

Will iPad Air 2 cases fit the new tablet?

Will iPad Air 2 cases fit the new tablet?

But first, a quick word about cases designed for the iPad Air 2. The big question is whether cases designed for the older iPad will fit the new version. The simple answer is yes, with some substantial caveats.

Both the smaller iPad Pro and iPad Air 2 sport the same exact dimensions – height, width, and depth. But there are three features on the new model that may cause issues with older cases. Along with a Smart Connector, the new tablet features four speakers – two on each end – and a TrueTone flash near the rear camera. Any iPad Air 2 case should fit the new iPad, but cover all three of those new features.

Speck StyleFolio, $39.99

Speck StyleFolio, $39.99

The StyleFolio offers full protection of the iPad. The cover is made with easy-to-clean material, and users can place their tablet into a number of different angles, including typing and media viewing. The closure clasp helps to keep the case closed when traveling.

The black version is available to order now and costs $39.99. A number of other colors and patterns will arrive next month.

Luvvitt Clear Grip Case, $12.99

Luvvitt Clear Grip Case, $12.99

A minimalistic case choice, Luvvitt’s option is compatible with Apple’s Smart Cover and protects the back of the tablet. Made with a flexible and clear material, it allows users to protect the back of the tablet while showing off Apple’s design. Along with reinforced corners to protect the iPad from drops, the raised front lip allows users to place their tablet face down without having to worry about scratching the screen. It’s $12.99.

Apple Smart Keyboard, $149

Apple Smart Keyboard, $149

First introduced with the larger iPad Pro, the Smart Keyboard for the new iPad packs all of the same technology in a smaller package. Attaching to the iPad via the Smart Connector, there’s no need to worry about pairing the keyboard. The connector also provides power to the keyboard. Coated with fabric, the keyboard is designed to resist water and stains.

It’s $149 and can be ordered now from Apple’s site.

Griffin Survivor Slim, $79.99

A great rugged option, Griffin’s Survivor Slim is also designed to work with Apple’s new accessories for the tablet. Along with a built-in holder on the rear for an Apple Pencil, it is also compatible with Apple’s Smart Keyboard without removing the case. Just attach the keyboard to the iPad Pro’s Smart Connector, and then pop out the case’s built-in kickstand to position the tablet for typing. Designed to protect the tablet from drops of up to 6.6 feet, the inner shell of the case is made with silicone while the outer layer is made with a non-slip material. An integrated screen protector allows complete use of the Touch ID sensor and display.

Two different color options can be ordered now for $79.99.

Peralta Scarlett Sleeve, $79

For simple and fashionable protection on the go, Peralta’s Scarlett Sleeve features a water-repellant exterior along with a neoprene interior that can help fend off any shocks. Buyers can select from three different styles, including the pictured Red Gala by Luna, for $79.

Another inexpensive option, the Unicorn Beetle Pro is made with two layers of protection and a built-in screen protector. A kickstand allows users to prop up the tablet for typing or other activities.

The black version is $19.99 and will be available next week. Two other color options – a blue and white case – cost $5 more and will arrive in mid-April.

Apple Smart Cover, $49

Apple Smart Cover, $49

One iPad Air 2 case that definitely won’t work with the new model is Apple’s Smart Cover. The new iPad Pro features a different magnet alignment. Just like previous versions, the new cover attaches to the tablet’s back. Your iPad will automatically wake when the cover is opened and sleep when it is closed. It can also be used with Apple’s silicone case.

You can select from 12 different colors of the $49 case.
