How to Watch the 90th Annual Academy Awards on Apple TV

Apple TV
March 2, 2018

The 90th Annual Academy Awards will be held this Sunday, March 4, beginning at 5 p.m. PST from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. This year, you can live stream the red carpet arrivals and backstage antics right from your Apple TV. You can also watch the actual ceremony on your device, depending on where you live and the type of service you have.

Exclusive red carpet coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. PST on Sunday outside of the theater. You can find “The Oscars: All Access” on your Apple TV via the ABC News app. Use this app to see backstage coverage throughout the ceremony. To watch this content, you don’t need a TV subscription.

You can view the ceremony with the ABC app by signing in with a participating TV provider. Look for “Live TV” in the app. Unfortunately, live coverage is only available in the following locations:

  • Chicago, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Francisco.

Customers with a DirecTV subscription can also live stream the area in the following locations:

  • Albuquerque, Boston, Ft. Smith/Fayetteville, Jackson (Mississippi), Kansas City, Milwaukee, Monterey-Salinas, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Portland-Auburn (Maine), Savannah, and West Palm Beach.

As you can see, it still isn’t that simple to watch the awards program on Apple TV. Perhaps next year, no?
