If you’ve ever thought Apple’s AirPods could have jumped off the screen from any “Star Wars” film, you’re exactly right. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Jony Ive said Apple took inspiration for the popular completely wireless earbuds from the iconic stormtroopers.
While the AirPods have been well-received by customers and are still hard to find almost 9 months after being introduced, some potential buyers might be looking for something different than the glossy white aesthetic. And the aptly named BlackPods are here to help.
Two different options
BlackPods Stealth pair nicely with a black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.
As you could probably tell by the name, BlackPods are the same exact AirPods but with a dark twist.
Currently, the aftermarket company offers two distinct models. For $279, you can purchase the BlackPods Classic which offers a glossy black finish in line with the Jet Black version of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. For $299, you can snag the BlackPods Stealth with their matte black aesthetic.
The shipping estimate for both of those is just two weeks. That’s better than the six-week wait when you order the white version through Apple now.
And there’s no need to worry if you already have a pair of AirPods. For a $99 fee, you can send them in and the company will paint them with the glossy or matte finish. After BlackPods receive your shipment, you should only have to wait 10 business days before the finished product is sent back.
A great look, if you're willing to pay
I’ve been trying out the BlackPods Classic for the past few weeks and have been impressed. The proprietary coating looks great and has definitely held up well with no scratches, abrasions or other marks.
So if you’re willing to pony up the extra cash, BlackPods are a fun way to sport AirPods that stand out in a crowd.
