Apple files a trademark for its 'Add to Apple Wallet' button
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has shared details on a trademark application from Apple for its “Add to Apple Wallet” button, which was originally filed earlier this month. The button itself can be spotted online at Apple's website, and features a mini icon for the Wallet iOS application along with the familiar stylized text.
Highlighted by Patently Apple, the trademark application itself describes the mark (which you can see on the right of this page). Apple also includes a lengthy, technical description of the “Add to Apple Wallet” trademark, too.
Of course, the button itself allows iOS device users to add cards (including movie tickets, boarding passes, coupons, rewards cards, and credit and debit cards) into the Wallet iOS application. This, in turn, works with the iPhone's built-in NFC support to allow for contactless transactions, while also utilizing on-screen codes to allow for scanning at terminals.
On the Apple Watch, users can also make payments and “scan” cards using the smart watch and a watchOS Wallet application. You can find out more about Wallet for iOS by clicking this link. There, Apple notes that there are indeed “several ways” to add passes into the Wallet app, including:
- Using Wallet-enabled apps
- With Mail or Messages
- Through a web browser
- Scanning a barcode
- Sharing through AirDrop
- From your Mac
- Tapping a Wallet notification that you got after paying with Apple Pay at a supported merchant
